Therapy / Impulse Control / Treatment
When you're working with Wade, you're not only working with years of education; a Master's Degree from Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies and post-graduate work at Adler Graduate School with a focus specialty in Abnormal Psychopathology, course work at the University Of Minnesota in Gambling Studies, but your also working with an individual who has first-hand experience with addictions and what it takes to gain rapport with addicts quickly, establish trust, and maintain long-term working relationships; all factors that reinforce ongoing remission from addiction. Wade spent the first years of his work with addicts taking the message of "hope" to inmates in the local, county and state prisons. Focusing his efforts on these under served populations taught Wade the value of recovery. "I think the biggest thing I learned while doing this work is the importance of meeting people where they are, no matter where they are." Most recently Wade worked as a Group Psychotherapist and Mental Health Professional in one of the nation's only High Intensity Inpatient Pathological Gamblers unit in Granite Falls,
Minnesota. It was in this position that Wade gained superior insight to the plight of the addicted gambler; the etiology, symptomatology and treatment of this "secret disease." Wade is a Nationally Certified Gambling Counselor 2, he has logged over 4000 hours working with gamblers and their families. As Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor Wade is trained in recognizing pathological use, tolerance, withdrawal and denial. "I often use Motivational Interviewing to move the client along the continuum of Stages of Change."
As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of Minnesota Wade had to pass a rigorous national test (The National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination) and have completed 4000 hours of clinical practice while under the direction of a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor. Wade has a gift of recognizing the combination mental illness and chemical dependency.
Recovery 101 Treatment Centers is where Wade spends his clinical hours treating addictions from a trauma focus. The principal R101 is founded on is that relapse to mood altering addictive substances or process is about changing the way one feels immediately. The trauma, or body response felt by way of recalling a past event, can be conscious or unconscious when it creates discomfort in the body that the individual wants to avoid. Using the Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) protocol, R101 has the aim of changing the way addictions are treated.
Wade has a passion for waterfowl hunting and with three Labrador retrievers there is always a dog for a duck. Balance of life means taking time to do the things that life has to offer. The outdoors does it for me, says Wade, its when I feel closest to my Higher Power and realize my position on the grand scheme of things.
